It’s summer y’all!
If you’re like me and you’re bursting with excitement now that warm sunny days are ahead, you may be wondering what new and delicious summer trends are popping up just in time to soak up those summer vibes.
In the mix
After some digging the general consensus in this summer’s fashion is one big mélange. Short shorts, board shorts, Bermuda shorts, 90’s high-waisted denim shorts; it’s all in. Minimalist to bohemian crafty to preppy paired with beach bum, also in. Metallic to muted colors. 1990’s revival to a 1920s nod on an evening out. You pick your poison for that cute little cocktail dress.
The common denominator
On the other hand, there had been a few outliers. A splash of red in your outfit has been popping up. Another welcomed style for those warm, sunny days is wearing white or pastel yellow dresses either linen, crochet, or any light, flowy material that feels right. A suitable solution for any occasion during the summer season is loose-fitting apparel. The 90’s have been finding their way back for some time now and it seems to have influenced a couple of newer generations (you’re welcome). The 90’s expression involves loose-fitting yet high-waisted pants. Wide-legged trousers and long-shouldered tops. Layered with blazers and CBK-era black open-toe, low-heeled sandals.
Brainstorming phase
Where to begin? There’s an infinite amount of time one can spend scouring the internet to find outfits. Looking at sizes, prices, color schemes, accessories, and style suitability can be overwhelming. (Been there). The best way to start is hop on Pinterest and search for summer trend capsules (basically a vision board of outfits). Here are some pieces to ponder, if you’re looking to refresh your summer wardrobe.
Back to basics
If you don’t want a complete wardrobe overhaul but want to change it up a bit, some of these might refresh your look. (Pssst…some of these are available at Target—-love me some Tarjay).
Sweet indulgence
Some items that are building a (good) rep. will add some flare to any outfit. The ON Cloudrunner 2, Goodr sunglasses, and the Cotopaxi bags are popping up in pockets everywhere. They’re things you need so you don’t have to feel guilty indulging. Who doesn’t need another pair of sunnies or pocket book?
What I like about them:
The ON brand is making an impact in the recreational walker and runner world thanks to their CloudTec® cushioning that absorbs impact and Helion™ superfoam midsole that provides big energy return. Many have said they swear by this shoe because of its comfort and ease on the joints after a long run or walk.
Goodr sunglasses have been a fan fav amongst the 35-45-year-old crowd with their massive variety of styles and colors. They’re affordable too! Their mantra is “No slip, no bounce, all polarized, all fun.” They started in 2015 as a runner’s alternative to the “expensive, ugly, and over-engineered” running sunglasses on the market and grew to become a fun solution for everyone.
Cotopaxi is unique with its colorful combinations and durable material. The packs and bags come in many different sizes to suit any occasion from camping to casual. Each pack is one-of-a-kind if you like to stand out from the crowd of black over-the-shoulder-wearing fanny pack wearers. The best part is they follow the UN Global Compact and Principles of Responsible Business, provide direct grants to all workers in cut-and-sew factories to boost well-being, and partner with factories overseas that treat workers right, source sustainably minded materials which they plan to be solely recycled and repurposed by 2025.
You do you!
Bottom line, there’s something for everyone and every size (woohoo!). This is the age of have-fun-with-it, so broaden your horizons or vibe on what feels right; push those comfort zones or zone in on comfort. The choice is yours!
A xo
